Church Purpose And History

Purpose

Our purpose at New Life Baptist Church is to be a place of new beginnings for everyone.  We are here to worship and glorify the Lord.  Our desire is to grow and mature in Christ while reaching the lost through the gospel of salvation and seek and serve the needs of those around us.

The History of New Life Baptist Church

New Life Baptist Church began as a mission church in 1978. Cana Baptist Church in Burleson, TX, together with the Rehoboth Baptist Association, identified a need in Cooper to begin a church. Bro. Billy Hoffman and wife Ruth drove back and forth the 100+ from Ft. Worth, TX to begin this new church. They were the only members of this new congregation for nine months. Through visitation and soul winning, the congregation began to grow. Cooper Baptist Mission was renamed New Life Baptist Church in May 1979, although it remained a mission church until it was constituted in August 1983. The congregation met in tin buildings until the present church building was built in 1980. Bro. Billy Hoffman continued to pastor the church until 1981. Bro. Don Paxton became pastor in 1981 and pastored the church for 14 years. During that time, the church was constituted and added the wing for the fellowship hall in 1983. Bro. Jackie Stanfield became pastor in 1995. With the help of the Texas Baptist men, the church built a parsonage beside the church in 1995. Bro. Stanfield resigned in early 1999, and a few months later the church called Bro. Chad Barnes as pastor. Pastor Barnes preached his first message at New Life on Easter Sunday of 1999. Also in 1999, the church uniquely aligned with the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention along with the Southern Baptist Convention.

Since 1999 we began to seek a new direction in worship by transitioning to a blended music in response of a change in our culture. We have added the keyboard, guitarists and a praise team. We completed the 40 Days of Purpose Driven Life campaign recently and felt God leading us to the five purposes of life. We are currently transitioning through the traditional church structure to a contemporary style of worship and structure. We have implemented the structure that was developed by Rick Warren of Saddleback Church in California. Our focus is on Worship, Fellowship, Discilpleship, Ministry and Evangelism that lines directly up with the Word of God.
